An Interview With Ivan Makarov (yes, me!)

If you have a moment, check out an interview I did with guys at Caliber SF, new blog with San Francisco street and documentary theme that a group of photographers recently launched. They’ve interviewed me about my photography, about how I learn and how I keep myself motivated and about a couple of my favorite shots. Please make a jump here.

On a personal note, if you are not yet reading that blog on regular basis, you should. The pictures and passion of these guys are captivating and motivating for me. I visit their blog regularly – when it comes to San Francisco, these guys capture its true spirit. I was able to shoot with Troy Holden and Stuart Dixon on several occassions, and it’s been a blast.

Fantastic- just fantastic. Great interview and that photograph of your family is just brilliant.

Also, it thrilled me to hear that your first camera was a D40 as that was (and continues to be) my first as well. Perhaps one day, as I continue to evolve and get better, I’ll be half as good at this photography thing as you are.

I did love the D40 – amazing what that camera does for the amount of money it costs. I do miss it sometimes, perhaps I should have kept it.

Thank you for sharing your photographs- honestly.

As for the D40- I’m semi-in-the-market for an upgrade but I whole-heartedly intend on keeping this gem for small family get togethers when my biggest concern is just lugging a beast like the D300 around. It’s a gem- an absolute gem.

Yes, the weight does play a big issue because other cameras are sometimes almost twice and big and are not as practical. I don’t carry my camera with me as much as I’d like to simply because of its size. I love the simplicity of controls of D40 and its light weight.
